A brand new American Tea Room opened up in downtown LA’s arts/warehouse district and I was able to head over on their preview night to check out the new space and try their tea.
I’m a huge tea fanatic, I drink tea almost every day, so it was very exciting for me to hear that one was opening so close to my studio. So many tea shops have a limited selection of tea but I can literally get almost anything I want at American Tea Room.
Their new location is still in a budding section of downtown LA but that means there is still ample free parking (a huge plus for me). It’s all about the indoor/outdoor combo feel and the decor is super industrial modern (my fav). Lots of cool concretes and metal paired with warm woods. Their outdoor patio area has a live wall and fire pits with super comfortable seating. There is more seating in the warehouse style interior as well. The design was so well done.
One thing I thought was really fantastic was their Tea Zone scanning station. It’s so high tech! It’s a huge touchscreen that has all the tubes of different teas at the bottom. You can scan a tube and all the information about the tea comes up on the screen and you can swipe around!
And now on to the most important aspect: the tea.
The size of their selection is extraordinary. You can get basic teas to unique, specialty teas. From black tea, to white tea, to green tea, to oolong – they got it all. You can purchase any tea loose leaf, in satchets, or order it to be made so you can enjoy it right away. My favorite tea type is black (usually Indian or English are at the top for me), especially with milk so I tried their Hong Kong-Style Milk Tea (black tea with condensed or evaporated milk). The flavor was delicious and the drink was so, so smooth. The tea was strong enough to cut through the milk while still allowing the milk to maintain it’s creaminess. I also tried their Okinawan Life Tea which was super fragrant and you can really taste the jasmine and ginger.
They are now open to the public! I seriously cannot wait to head back and get even more tea. Since they are brand new, they haven’t started serving food yet, but they are planning on it soon. Have I found my new meeting location? I think so. 😉
